World Triathlon loves Spain, homeland of its president, Marisol Casado. The body announces that it has awarded the city of Pontevedra, located in the autonomous community of Galicia, the hosting of the multisport world championships in 2025. The event will take place from June 20 to 29, it will bring together the disciplines of duathlon, triathlon long distance, long distance aquabike, aquathlon, triathlon cross and duathlon cross. Pontevedra is the hometown of five-time world champion, Javier Gomez Noya. The Multisport Triathlon World Championships were created in 2017, with a first edition in Penticton, Canada. The event was then hosted by the Danish town of Fyn (2018), then by Pontevedra (2019), before being canceled in 2020 due to the health crisis. Since then, two successive editions have been spread over different sites: Almere (Netherlands), Aviles (Spain) and El Anillo (Spain) in 2021, Targu Mures (Romania) and Samorin (Slovakia) in 2022. Last year , the competition returned to its original format, with a ten-day festival in Ibiza, Spain (pictured above). This year, the world championships will take place from August 15 to 25 in the Australian city of Townsville.
