A closing ceremony outside the stadium

French Alps 2030

The French Alps' bid for the 2030 Winter Olympics is not slowing down. Not yet officially designated by the IOC session – it will be without a shadow of a doubt at the end of July in Paris – it has already drawn the broad outlines of the closing ceremony. On the fourth, and penultimate, day of the visit of the IOC Future Host Commission, the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, announced Thursday April 25 that it would be held in his city. So far, nothing very unexpected. But the Nice elected official also assured that it would take place outside the stadium, on the Promenade des Anglais (photo above). “ I don't see why we would be satisfied with a stadium, even if it is very beautiful, to host the closing ceremony when we can offer the most beautiful bay in the world and a Promenade which can accommodate 300.000 people“, suggested Christian Estrosi. The mayor of Nice specified that a test would be carried out this year, on July 20, the day before the final arrival of the Tour de France in his city. A little less than six years before the event, the idea is still only at the project stage, but it already seems to appeal to the IOC. Christophe Dubi, the executive director of the Olympic Games, explained: “Today, we can no longer imagine a ceremony just in a stadium for a major event. So you have to ask yourself all the questions. »It was also confirmed, Thursday, April 25, that the media center for the southern part of the 2030 Winter Games, the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur (PACA) region, where the figure skating events will take place, along with curling, short track and ice hockey, will be located in Nice. It will be installed in a new 12.000 m2 convention center, to be built on the port. Before the 2030 Winter Games, it will be used for an international conference on the sea organized by the United Nations.
