WADA announces candidates for African regional election for its Expert Advisory Group on National Anti-Doping Organizations

The election will take place from March 4 to 6, 2024 

Montreal, February 16, 2024

Following communication from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) 10th January 2024 Opening the call for applications for the upcoming African regional election for the WADA National Anti-Doping Organizations (NADO) Consultative Group of Experts (CEG), we are pleased to announce that we have received five eligible applications for fill the vacant seat.

“NADOs play a vital role in protecting clean sport,” said WADA NADO CGE Chair Mr. Kim Kum-pyoung. I encourage all eligible African NADOs to participate in this electoral process to ensure strong and effective representation within WADA. The elected representative will join a committed group that provides expertise on anti-doping issues impacting NADOs and advice to WADA on its activities to strengthen collaboration with NADOs and their development globally. »

The five candidates are listed below in alphabetical order by last name. An election will be organized with eligible African NADOs in order to elect a candidate for the GCE on NADOs, composed of ten members in total.

Eligibility

Candidates had to meet the eligibility criteria set out in Article 4 of the WADA NADO GCE election procedure. The criteria include being employed at the executive level by an eligible NADO or being a member of the supervisory body of an eligible NADO, and not being involved in the management or operations of a federation international body, a national federation, an organization responsible for major events, a national Olympic committee, a national Paralympic committee or a government department responsible for sport or the fight against doping. In addition, the NADO which nominated a candidate had to meet the eligibility criteria set out in Article 3 of the Election Procedure. The five candidates listed above have been reviewed and confirmed by the DRO.

To be eligible to vote in the election, all African NADOs must meet the same criteria as a NADO presenting a candidate. All African NADOs were informed of the list of candidates on February 16, 2024 and all eligible African NADOs will be contacted to confirm if they wish to vote in the election.

Regional election 

The election will be held virtually via an online voting platform of the 4 at 6 March 2024. Only NADOs registered and deemed eligible will be able to vote. As noted above, eligible NADOs will vote to elect an African representative to the NADO GCE for a term ending in December 2025, along with the other nine members of the NADO GCE.

Unless a second round is held due to a tie, the successful candidate will be confirmed by the DRO on March 8 and will be announced by WADA shortly thereafter.
