The International Wrestling Federation (UWW) kept its word. It had announced its decision to carry out an investigation after the accusations of corruption of judges made by the Italian Frank Chamizo (photo above), double world champion in freestyle wrestling, after his lost fight against the Azeri Turan Bayramov in the semi-finals of the European Olympic qualifying tournament in Baku last week. The Italian wrestler even assured in his country's press that he had offered him the sum of 300.000 euros to lose his fight. After investigation, the international body decided to suspend two of the judges of the fight, the Ukrainian Roman Pavlov and the Turk Ibrahim Cicioglu, until December 31, 2024. A third referee, the Iraqi Ali M. Saiwan, received a suspension until September 30, 2024. Finally, the three other officials present at the edge of the field, including the president of the jury, the Tunisian Kamel Bouaziz, are removed from all their functions until June 30.
