The MEL and Paris 2024 sign an agreement to make the Stadium available for the Olympic Games

As part of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, 52 basketball and handball matches will be played at the Decathlon Arena – Stade Pierre Mauroy. This flagship facility in the region will be the venue for the men's and women's preliminary phases of the Olympic basketball tournament as well as the women's and men's final phases of the Olympic handball tournament. These meetings will be held from July 27 to August 11, 2024 in metropolitan France. The Olympic village which will accommodate the athletes will be located at the Stadium in Villeneuve d'Ascq. The MEL and Paris 2024 thus sign an agreement which specifies the commitments of each party for the occupation of the site during the competition.

The Stadium, future Olympic village

Located in Villeneuve d'Ascq, the Stadium is a real reference site for the practice of athletics in the metropolitan area. With its quality equipment, it regularly hosts major sporting events. Due to its multiple uses, it plays a real role as a link between high-level sport and sport for all.

During the Olympic Games, this equipment will be made available to athletes. The Metropolis, committed to hosting the Games on its territory, thus approves the signing of the agreement for the provision of the Stadium with Paris 2024. This is broken down into 3 periods including a non-exclusive period of preparation for hosting athletes, from the signing of the agreement until June 30, 2024, an exclusive period for the benefit of Paris 2024 of welcoming athletes from July 1 to August 18, 2024 and finally a non-exclusive period following the end of the competition for the restoration of the site from August 19 to 31, 2024.

Through this agreement, the MEL undertakes to ensure the upkeep and maintenance of the site, excluding temporary arrangements put in place by Paris 2024. In order to carry out these services, the MEL will rely on the Stadium and management teams. of Heritage. It will also call on external service providers via the Heritage Department's markets in order to comply with the requirements of Paris 2024.

As part of this provision and during the exclusive period, Paris 2024 undertakes to take charge of the energies and fluids necessary for the operation of the village. Paris 2024 will reimburse the MEL for consumption following a contradictory meter reading between the parties. Paris 2024 must also cover the repair of damage for which Paris 2024, one of its partners or one of its service providers are responsible. Any work will be carried out by the MEL after validation of the estimate by Paris 2024 constituting agreement for reimbursement from Paris 2024 to the MEL.

Throughout the period covered by the agreement, the MEL will make its best efforts to support Paris 2024 within the Stadium site by mobilizing agents. The costs borne by the MEL for setting up the site, upkeep and maintenance are estimated at a maximum of €600.
