The Kremlin seems to want to open the door to the Paris 2024 Games wide for Russian athletes who qualify. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko (former chairman of the Sochi 2014 Winter Games organizing committee) explained to national media: Russian athletes should go to the Games if they are not asked to sign a declaration condemning the military offensive in Ukraine. “ If athletes have the chance, they should probably go for it, explained Dmitry Chernyshenko (photo above), quoted by the agency TASS. But the decision must be made by the athletes themselves. If the IOC officially confirms that it is not asking eligible athletes to condemn (the invasion of Ukraine) or abandon their homeland, then I think there will be no legal obstacles for athletes to go to the Olympics”.
