Afghanistan must respect parity

CIO

Not won in advance. Less than 130 days before the opening of the Paris 2024 Games (D – 127), the IOC still hopes to see an Afghan delegation parade in good order at the opening ceremony, but above all that it reflects gender parity . Meeting in Lausanne, the executive commission once again looked into the matter, Tuesday March 19, to finally “ confirm " his wish that Afghanistan be represented next summer in Paris by an equal number of male and female athletes. The body explains that it is “ remained in constant dialogue with the Afghan NOC and the Afghan sports authorities with the aim of lifting the current restrictions on access to sport for women and girls". At the same time, the IOC continued to support Afghan athletes, particularly women, through Olympic Solidarity, so that they could prepare for and participate in international competitions. At the Tokyo 2020 Games, the Afghan delegation included five athletes, including only one woman.
