WADA adds Tunisian National Anti-Doping Organization to its compliance 'watch list'

Communiqué

Montreal, December 7, 2023

Following a circulatory vote which concluded yesterday, the Executive Committee of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) approved a revised recommendation of the Independent Compliance Review Committee (CRC) of the Agency to add the Tunisian National Anti-Doping Organization (ANAD) to WADA’s compliance “watch list”1.

Le November 16, 2023, the Executive Committee accepted the CRC's recommendation to allege non-compliance with the ANAD World Anti-Doping Code (Code) due to the lack of appropriate implementation of the Code within its national legal framework.

In the days following the Executive Committee meeting, ANAD provided a precise timetable concerning the adoption of a number of amendments to the relevant legislative and regulatory texts to ensure compliance with the Code of the Tunisian legal framework in matters anti-doping within four months. At the same time, so-called “critical” corrective measures linked to an audit carried out in March 2023 were implemented and closed. Therefore, the CRC has updated its recommendation for ANAD to be added to the “watch list”.

In accordance with International Standard for Code Compliance for Signatories (SICCS), by adding ANAD to the “watch list”, the Executive Committee granted it an additional period of four months to implement its corrective action plan. Therefore, if the outstanding irregularity has not been corrected to the satisfaction of the CRC by April 6, 2024, WADA will allege non-compliance with the ANAD Code without further action by the Executive Committee.

The CRC is responsible for providing independent advice, guidance and recommendations to WADA management and governing bodies on matters relating to Signatories’ compliance with their obligations under the Code.
