Macron unveils plans B and C

Paris 2024

Emmanuel Macron explained this on Monday April 15, during a long intervention on BFM TV/RMC: the French state is working on fallback solutions for the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Games, Friday July 26 on the Seine. The President of the Republic spoke of “ plans B and C » to take out of the drawers in the event of risks to the security of the event. “ If we think there are risks, depending on the analysis we do of the context, we have fallback scenarioshe insisted. There are plans B and C and we prepare them in parallel. » So far, nothing very new. Emmanuel Macron has already mentioned to the media the scenario of an alternative to the parade of delegations on the Seine, along a 6 km route. But he had never yet revealed where and how a ceremony in plan B or C mode could take place. Surprise, the head of state did so on Monday morning, 102 days before the opening. Second surprise, he announced that the evening could take place at the Stade de France. Old-fashioned, then. “ We will do an analysis in real time and we are preparing a ceremony which would be limited to the Trocadéro, where we would not use the entire Seine, or even a ceremony which would be repatriated to the Stade de France, because that is what is traditionally done “, he detailed. Before continuing: “ France can do it and will do it. There are always risks in life, but we have given ourselves the means. We anticipated, we are setting up a very large perimeter, we are going to screen people who go out, restrict traffic. » Between the two options mentioned by Emmanuel Macron, a reduced format version at the Trocadéro and a repatriation to the Stade de France, only the first seems realistic. Difficult, in fact, to imagine reconfiguring the show prepared by Thomas Jolly within the Stade de France. And, even more, to review all the ticketing for the evening, with the capacity of the Stade de France lower than the 96.000 seats sold on the lower quays of the Seine.
