Less than 1.000 days before the opening of the Paris 2024 Games, the French authorities are reopening the issue of the French language in major international sporting events. A college of experts set up by the General Delegation for the French language and the languages ​​of France, of the Ministry of Culture, in close collaboration with the Ministry responsible for Sports, has been reviewed in its composition. With one objective: Paris 2024. The college of 21 experts includes Daniel Zielinski, General Inspector of Education, Sport and Research, appointed Senior Official for the French language for sport. He will be the referent on all questions relating to the use of the French language for the Ministry responsible for Sports. Roxana Maracineanu, Minister Delegate for Sports, and Paul de Sinety, General Delegate for the French language and the languages ​​of France, launched the work of this new college on Thursday, January 13, whose members come from the Académie française, the university, the national Olympic (CNOSF) and Paralympic (CPSF) committees, the National Sports Agency (ANS), DIJOP, DIGES, representatives of sports federations, the Sports Directorate, as well as representatives sports and media writers. It is chaired by academic Arnaud Richard, president of the French National Olympic Academy. Among its files, the identification and definition of new less English terms for the four additional sports at the Paris 2024 Games – breaking, climbing, skateboarding and surfing – in conjunction with the French federations concerned. A work presented as “ crucial » for the promotion of the French language and the enrichment of sports terminology.
