Four world championships in one go

Handball

Decisive day for handball. The international federation (IHF) is holding a meeting of its Executive Council this Tuesday, April 16 in Créteil, at the headquarters of the French federation. It will be dominated by the draw for the men's and women's tournaments for the Paris 2024 Games. But, before that, the body will award the 2029 and 2031 world championships. For men, the file presented by France and Germany should be chosen, especially since the withdrawal of Saudi Arabia leaves it with only one rival, a trio of Nordic countries made up of Denmark, Iceland and Norway. The only unknown, therefore: the order of the competitions. Logically, the IHF should decide to award the 2029 edition to the three Nordic countries, then the following two years later to the couple formed by Germany and France. The 2027 edition will in fact be organized entirely in Germany. No suspense, however, on the female side. Spain is the only candidate for the world championships in 2029. For the next edition, the ticket formed by Poland and the Czech Republic has no rival.
