The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) took advantage of its annual general meeting, organized on Saturday May 4 in virtual mode, to confirm the amount of bonuses granted to athletes who will get a medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics. An Olympic title will be accompanied by a check for 20.000 Australian dollars (12.300 euros at the current rate), a silver medal of 15.000 dollars (9.200 euros), and a bronze medal of 10.000 dollars (6.150 euros). So far, nothing very new, the medal incentive program has existed in Australia for around twenty years. But eight years before the Brisbane 2032 Games, the Olympic body is establishing a second athlete aid fund. It will concern Olympic hopefuls, will pass through the Australian Sports Foundation, but will not be directly linked to performances. Ian Chesterman, president of the Australian Olympic Committee, clarified at the general assembly that financial aid will be subject to criteria "aimed at ensuring that Australian athletes who aspire to compete in the Olympic Games can benefit."
