Football opens up to girls

Jeux de la Francophonie

Change in sight for football at the Francophonie Games. The next edition of the sporting and cultural event, allocated for 2027 to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, should be marked by the addition of women's football to the program. The age category has not yet been decided, but the qualification process could include eliminations by geographical zones if more than eight national teams register. For boys, where the tournament is still reserved for junior national teams (U20), the regulations should be modified to allow the addition of three players over 20 years old. A seminar on sport at the Francophonie Games is to be held on Wednesday April 17 in Paris, in person and virtually, at the initiative of the International Committee of the Francophonie Games (CIJF) and its director, the Lebanese Zeina Mina .
