Australia is getting ahead. With more than eight years to go before the Brisbane 2032 Games, the federal government has approved a grant to upgrade the facilities at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra. It amounts to 249,7 million Australian dollars, or approximately 153 million euros at current prices. Announced by the Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, it is to be used for the construction of a new multi-storey accommodation building, an indoor multi-sport training center and a high-end training and testing center for performance. Comment from Australian Olympic Committee President Ian Chesterman: “This decision looks to the future and the great opportunity that Brisbane 2032 represents for Australian sport and the wider Australian community. As Sports Minister Anika Wells highlighted today, the AIS has played a vital role in the past and to ensure the success of the 2032 Games, the time to invest in sport is now . » Australia returned without a gold medal from the Montreal Games in 1976. Since the opening of the AIS in 1981, Australians have won at least three at each edition of the Summer Olympics, including 17 at Tokyo 2020.
