Americans fear heatstroke

Winter games

A group of 75 American winter athletes sent a very official letter to Barack Obama. Reason: the threat of global warming to the Winter Olympic Games. The record temperatures recorded last winter worry these future selections in Sochi. “As professional athletes, representing a community of 23 million winter sports enthusiasts, we are the first witnesses to climate change,” they write. Two significant measures are requested: the closure of aging coal-fired power plants, and the abandonment of the Keystone pipeline project, intended to transport oil from Canada to Texas.
