Women's football

Jeux de la Francophonie

The host country is not yet known – it should be in the coming months – but the program for the 2027 Francophonie Games could be marked by some changes. At the top of the list is football. Zeina Mina, the director of the International Committee of the Games of La Francophonie (CIJF), and Sory Diabaté, the FIFA technical delegate for the event, discussed at the start of the week in Paris the results of the 2023 edition in Kinshasa , in the DRC. And already outlined the outlines of the football tournament in 2027. Among the avenues mentioned, the addition of a women's tournament. The next edition could also be marked, still in football, by a change in the number of countries, the age category, or even the possibility for qualified teams to integrate a few players over 20 years old. At the 2023 Francophonie Games in Kinshasa, the tournament was won by Cameroon (photo above), winner in the final of Burkina Faso (2-1). Sixteen countries were due to take part in the competition, but eight of them withdrew in recent weeks, including France, Canada, Tunisia and Ivory Coast.
