Zero tolerance

China

Four years away from welcoming the world for the Beijing 2022 Winter Games, China is seeking to give itself the image of a country where doping is fought relentlessly. The Chinese anti-doping agency (CHINADA) announced on Tuesday January 9, exactly one month before the opening of the PyeongChang 2018 Games, that it would now carry out more than 1.000 tests per year. Chinese winter athletes alone have been tested 400 times since September, with more than 200 athletes having been tested in December 2017 alone. Chinese athletes on the high-level lists must submit to a written exam on the rules and dangers of doping to participate in national championships and major international competitions. A procedure also imposed on their coaches. In 2017, CHINADA discovered 70 positive cases in Chinese sport, 25 more than the previous year. An increase judged by sports authorities as proof of their efforts to fight against doping.
