Skating

Promising results for the first edition of World Ice Skating Day, proposed on December 4, 2022 by the International Skating Union (ISU). According to figures announced by the body, it was celebrated in 47 countries and 170 ice rinks around the world, from Australia to the Philippines, via South Africa, Peru and a large number of nations in Europe and North America. The program includes skating lessons for children and beginners, coaching sessions, but also thematic exhibitions and shows by professional skaters. In Lausanne, where the ISU is headquartered, an event organized at the Vaudoise Aréna brought together more than 2000 skaters on the ice (photo above). All skating disciplines – artistic, speed and short-track – were represented. In Ladakh, India, World Day was celebrated on a frozen lake located on the slopes of the Himalayas, at an altitude of 5.602 meters. In the United States, the initiative proposed by the ISU was relayed by 35 clubs, with the support of the two national federations, US Figure Skating and US Speedskating.
