The international season is over. But athletics will be in the news one last time, this Thursday, September 26 in New York. The reason: a unique competition, richly endowed, dedicated exclusively to female athletes. Its name: Athlos NYC. Organized on the track of Icahn Stadium, the one-day meeting was imagined, set to music and partly financed by Alexis Ohanian, an American entrepreneur known for having been at the origin of the creation of the community site Reddit. He is also the husband of Serena Williams. On the program, only six events, only races: 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m, 1500 m and 100 m hurdles. For each, the winner will receive a $60.000 prize, double the amount paid for winning the Diamond League finals, plus a piece of jewelry designed by Tiffany & Co. In total, Athlos NYC will distribute $500.000 in prize money, plus 10% of the event's revenue. The meeting will be broadcast on the X platform, on YouTube and on ESPN-plus. On the track, four Olympic champions at the Paris 2024 Games: Americans Gabby Thomas (200m) and Masai Russell (100m hurdles), Dominican Marileidy Paulino (400m), and Kenyan Faith Kipyegon (1.500m).
