Winter sports booming

China

No doubt: China is not experiencing any downturn after the Beijing 2022 Winter Games. Proof of this was given at the National Winter Games, which ended on Tuesday February 27 in the autonomous region of Mongolia. The first national meeting for snow and ice sports since Beijing 2022, they were marked by the participation of more than 3.000 athletes, competing in 176 events. In total, 35 regional delegations participated in this 14th edition, an increase compared to the previous edition. Revealing a better distribution of forces: 30 of them won medals, including certain provinces in southern China, such as Guangdong and Jiangsu, unaccustomed to winter competitions. According to organizers, more than 13 million visits were recorded to competition areas during the National Winter Games. The next edition will take place in 2028 in Liaoning province, in northeast China. Its capital, Shenyang, will become the first Chinese city to host both the National Games and the National Winter Games.
