The fall of an idol. Viktor Petrenko, 53, Olympic figure skating champion in 1992, is losing his advantages and privileges in Ukraine one by one. After being removed from his post as vice-president of the Skating Federation of Ukraine last month, he was stripped of his monthly Olympic medalist allowance by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The reason ? The ex-skater participated in a figure skating show in Russia in July. He took part in an ice version of “Scarlet Flower,” a show organized in Sochi by 2006 Olympic ice dancing champion Tatiana Navka, also the wife of Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov. Viktor Petrenko (photo above) played the role of the father of a character played by Kamila Valieva, 16, the young Russian at the heart of the Beijing 2022 Winter Games doping affair. According to a communication from the firm of the Ukrainian president, Viktor Petrenko was also excluded from the training of young Ukrainian skaters.
