Two events, one ceremony

FISU

The university sports movement came to its knees with the cancellation for health reasons of the World Winter Games, which were to be held last December in Lucerne, Switzerland. But its international body, FISU, is already looking ahead to the months and years to come. It organized a joint ceremony on Monday January 17 to launch its two main events, the Summer World University Games in Chengdu (China) next summer, then those of winter in Lake Placid (United States) in 2023 For the first of these two events, initially planned last year but postponed for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony marked the launch from the main courtyard of the University of Turin, in Italy, of the torch relay. She is now on her way to China. The Chengdu World University Games are scheduled to be held from June 26 to July 7, 2022. At the same time, the FISU flag was symbolically handed over by the Lucerne 2021 Swiss to the American organizers of the Lake Placid 2023 World University Games (12 to January 22). For the occasion, the two official mascots, Wulli for Lucerne 2021 and Adirondack Mac for Lake Placid 2023, were brought together in Turin. The first of the two unfortunately did not have the opportunity to play its role last December during the event, canceled just a few days before its opening.
