Two Russians excluded for doping

Rowing

Bad start. Two weeks before the opening of the Tokyo Games, “ the team of athletes of the Russian Olympic Committee » has already lost two elements. The Russian Rowing Federation confirmed to the agency TASS, through its president Alexei Svirin, that the rowers Nikita Morgachev and Pavel Sorin had been excluded from the delegation. They tested positive for meldonium during an out-of-competition test carried out on June 17 during a training camp in Greece. The Russian rowing team arrived in Japan on Friday July 2. It had 14 rowers, two less than the planned number. The B samples of the two excluded will now be analyzed. If the result is also positive, Nikita Morgachev and Pavel Sorin risk up to four years of suspension.
