Football is not in crisis. We knew that. FIFA has published, as it does every year, its analysis of activity on the transfer market for the year 2024 (June 1 to September 2). Its results are historic, for both men and women. In men's professional football, more than $6,4 billion was spent on transfer fees in just three months, the second highest total ever reached. Another record: more than 10.900 international transfers were completed during the same period of the current year. Unsurprisingly, English clubs were the biggest spenders, with a cumulative total of $1,6 billion in transfer fees. England is ahead of Brazil and Portugal. In women’s football, $6,8 million was spent on international transfers, more than double the total recorded during the main window in 2023. More than 1.100 international transfers were completed in women’s professional football, a new record and an increase of more than 30% compared to the same period a year earlier.
