Three candidates for the presidency

Modern pentathlon

There will therefore be three. Three candidates, all male, to succeed the German Klaus Schormann as president of the International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM). The Monaco-based body has published the official list of candidates, for the top post but also for the many other positions at stake. In all, no fewer than 65 candidates, a record for the UIPM. To succeed Klaus Schormann, at the head of the body since 1993 but not a candidate for his succession, the battle will be between the Frenchman Joël Bouzou (photo above), already vice-president, the Egyptian Sharif El Erian, secretary general of the Egyptian Olympic Committee, and the American Robert Stull, president of the North, Central American and Caribbean Modern Pentathlon Confederation. The three candidates are all Olympians. The elections will take place during the 73rd UIPM Congress, held on 16-17 November 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. No fewer than 12 candidates have been registered for the five vice-president positions, of which at least two places will go to new candidates.
