The International Rowing Federation (World Rowing) can rub its hands: its “ strategic event allocation process“, set up to replace old application campaigns, works smoothly. The body chaired by Frenchman Jean-Christophe Rolland unveiled the long list of applicants for major events on the international calendar for the period from 2024 to 2026, including the world rowing championships in 2025 and 2026. On the date from April 29, 2022, 15 national federations submitted bids for 24 competitions. Germany is in the lead, with five files, ahead of China, Italy and Turkey. Candidates have until July 11, 2022 to submit final offers, including financial guarantees. A full review of all application materials will then be carried out by World Rowing. All world championships will be awarded by the World Rowing Congress on September 26, 2022 in Racice, Czech Republic. For the 2025 Worlds, the first global meeting of the next Olympics, the decision will be between Amsterdam, Shanghai and Varese. The two beaten could be offered to organize the Worlds the following year, a 2026 edition for which World Rowing has not registered an application.
