Will the International Canoe-Kayak Federation (ICF) soon come under the German flag? Possible. Thomas Konietzko (photo above), the president of the German federation (DKV) and current vice-president of the international body, publicly announced his candidacy for the highest position. The election is scheduled for next year. It will be held during the ICF Annual Congress, April 22-25, 2021 in Manila, Philippines. The post of president will be left vacant by its current holder, the Spaniard José Perurena, who has decided not to seek a new mandate. He is 75 years old. “ My goal, as I have already done as vice-president, will be to further develop canoeing in Asia, America and Africa. Canoeing needs to become more present in these regions”, suggests Thomas Konietzko. José Perurena became president of the ICF in 2008. His term should have ended this year, but it was extended for another year due to the health crisis. Thomas Konietzko currently shares the vice-president of the ICF with the Argentine Cecila Farias and the French Tony Estanguet.
