A double vote for the Winter Games in 2030 and 2034? Unlikely. Questioned by the Japanese agency Kyodo News on the possibility of seeing the IOC repeat for the winter the scenario of double attribution 2024-2028, Thomas Bach suggested last week that the idea would not be the best for the future of the body... and especially for his successor as president. “ I think that even in a situation where you might have, from a purely technical point of view, good reasons to do it, it would not be a good thing for reasons of good governance“, believes the German leader. Clearly, a second double your, after that of the Lima session in 2017, would have the effect of creating a form of habit. A habit that could disrupt the work of the future president of the IOC, who will be elected in 2025 after the end of Thomas Bach's second and final mandate. Barring any major surprises, the IOC Executive Board will therefore stick to the announced road plan: in December 2022 it will choose one or more candidates invited to continue the dialogue phase, most likely just one, then submit a file to the session of Mumbai, in May and June 2023. At this stage of the process, Sapporo still appears to be leading the race. Thomas Bach explained it to Kyodo News : " What I can see is that there is very good cooperation between the different levels of authorities and government on the one hand, but also with the Japanese Olympic Committee. This type of cooperation and support is one of the essential elements for anyone wanting to host an Olympic Games"
