In its bid to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games, India received good news from World Athletics: the governing body has awarded the 2028 World Athletics Indoor Championships to the state of Odisha. A golden opportunity to demonstrate its capabilities since it will be the first world athletics competition welcomed by the country.
« Thanks to sustained investment in world-class sports infrastructure, athlete development programs, and high-performance ecosystems, our state has established itself as a prime destination for international sporting events. Hosting the 2028 World Indoor Athletics Championships will further strengthen our commitment to building a dynamic sporting culture while inspiring the next generation of athletes across India "This is very welcome," said Odisha's Chief Minister, Shri Mohan Charan Majhi.
The 2030 edition, meanwhile, was awarded to Astana (Kazakhstan). By awarding the next two editions to Odisha and Astana, I am delighted to see the World Indoor Championships continue to grow stronger, captivating spectators worldwide, and that our next two hosts fit perfectly into our strategy to extend our events to emerging markets " said Sebastian Coe, president of World Athletics.
