The virus wreaks havoc

China

The effects of the coronavirus epidemic are increasingly being felt in international sport. Day after day, China is forced to let go of all the continental or global meetings planned on its soil in the coming days or weeks. FIBA has announced its decision to relocate the women's Olympic basketball qualifying tournament to Foshan, China. It was to take place from February 6 to 9 and pit China, Great Britain, South Korea and Spain against each other. It will be held on the same dates in Belgrade, where another qualifying tournament for the Tokyo 2020 Games is planned. The capital of Serbia will host two competitions of the same issue, the second bringing together the United States, Mozambique and Nigeria. The two other women's TQOs will be organized in Ostend (Belgium, Sweden, Canada and Japan), and in Bourges (France, Australia, Brazil and Puerto Rico). Furthermore, the UCI announced on Monday January 27 the cancellation of the Hainan Cycling Tour (February 23 – March 1), in southern China. The event is on the UCI ProSeries calendar, the second level of international cycling. The UCI clarified that the Chinese Cycling Federation had requested that the event be rescheduled for 2020, “ depending on calendar availability. »
