The curse continues in Brazil. The Olympic velodrome in Rio de Janeiro, built especially for the Summer Games in 2016, was again damaged by a fire on the night of Saturday November 25 to Sunday November 26. The competition site had already been engulfed in flames last July. According to a fire department spokesperson, the fire broke out “at midnight and was not extinguished until 5 a.m. on Sunday.” It was allegedly caused by a Chinese lantern that fell on the roof. The fire, smoke and water used by firefighters caused considerable damage to the building. Immediate consequence: the cancellation of a judo tournament, planned soon at the velodrome.
