Are the figures from the PyeongChang Paralympic Games misleading? According to the IPC, the event is shattering all attendance records. At the start of the sixth day of competition, Thursday March 15, more than 331.000 tickets had been sold, a result which already surpasses the record (316) established four years earlier at the end of the Sochi Games. The only problem, but a major one: the stands do not always reflect the occupancy rate announced by the IPC. The organizing committee for the PyeongChang Games has recognized this: a little more than 200% of place holders for the Paralympic events do not show up at the site. The phenomenon, considered “disappointing” by the South Koreans, is particularly important in the curling tournament.
