The Seine still not suitable for swimming

Paris 2024

The saga of the water quality of the Seine continues at the Paris 2024 Games. The COJO announced very early in the morning, Monday July 29, that the swimming part of the “ familiarization »triathlon scheduled for the same day from 8:00 a.m. was once again canceled. In question, measurements of the level of pollution of the river exceed the standards defined by World Triathlon. The day before, the international body had taken the same decision for the same reason. Clarification: the first event of the triathlon, the men's individual race, is scheduled for Tuesday July 30. Worrying? The COJO wants to be reassuring, as it was the day before. “  Given the weather forecast for the next 36 hours, Paris 2024 and World Triathlon are confident that water quality will return below limits before the start of the competitions, underlines a press release. As observed in July, with summer conditions (more sunshine, higher temperatures, prolonged absence of rain) the water quality of the Seine has improved significantly. » Questioned several times at a press conference, the general director of the organizing committee, Etienne Thobois, explained that a final analysis would be carried out at 4:00 a.m., Tuesday July 30, four hours before the departure of the event. Its results will be communicated immediately to delegations.
