The CAS wants to take its time

Skating

Patience. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced Thursday June 22 in a press release the date of the hearing in the case of Russian skater Kamila Valieva, tested positive for a banned substance in December 2021, but not sanctioned by the agency Russian Anti-Doping Authority (RUSADA) and authorized to participate in the Beijing Winter Games. It will take place from September 26 to 29, 2023, in Lausanne and behind closed doors. We will therefore have to wait another three months, and even more before knowing the decision of the CAS, the court specifying that it was currently impossible for it “ to indicate when it will be announced. » As a reminder, the CAS was appealed in this case by the International Skating Federation (ISU), then by RUSADA, which took sides against its independent disciplinary tribunal and requested a sanction against Kamila Valieva. As for the IOC, it will also have to wait before finally being able to present the medals of the Olympic team figure skating event, won by Russia on the ice of the Beijing ice rink.
