The matter is over. Finally. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has rejected the appeal filed by Canadians to try to recover the bronze medal in the figure skating team event at the Beijing 2022 Winter Games. The court announced this on Friday August 2 in a press release, explaining that the hearings had been organized on July 22. The appeal was collective, filed by the nine Canadian skaters ranked 4th place at the Beijing 2022 Games, by Skate Canada and by the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC). It demanded the downgrading of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) team in its entirety, and not just the young Kamila Valieva, suspended for doping. The final ranking of the Olympic competition, established by the ISU at the start of the year, is therefore confirmed. The United States regains the gold medal, with 65 points, Japan inherits the silver (63 pts). Russia, initially declared victorious, was demoted to 3rd place after the withdrawal of Kamila Valieva's points. But with a total of 54 points, it retains the bronze medal ahead of Canada. A ceremony to award the gold and silver medals will be held on August 7 in Paris, at the Parc des Champions, at the initiative of the IOC.
