The Order of Merit of International Committee of the Mediterranean Games was awarded to the President of the Algerian Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune. This award was presented to him in recognition of his support for sport and his personal contribution to the organization of the Oran 2022 Mediterranean Games.
The Order of Merit is the highest distinction awarded by the ICMG. This is the first time it has been bestowed upon a head of state. In addition to the organization of the 2022 Games, the ICMG wished to recognize the policies implemented by President Tebboune to support sport at all levels in Algeria.
