History is in the making in American college sports. The NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) announced in a press release on Wednesday, April 29, the establishment of a working group on the reform of its regulations regarding athlete compensation. He must look into the delicate, and controversial, question of the right of university athletes to monetize their name and image. Last October, the NCAA voted in favor of relaxing the rules, to allow student athletes to collect image rights and sign advertising contracts, but on the condition that these contracts are not linked to their university, by name or logo. Several American states, including Florida and California, have already taken the lead in allowing college athletes to receive money. The NCAA has specified that a vote by its steering committee will take place in January 2021. The implementation of new regulations, if voted on, could take place as early as the 2021-2022 season.
