The NCAA at the top of the medal rankings

Paris 2024

The numbers say it all. According to a count carried out by the NCAA, American universities remain the leading provider of medals at the Olympic Games. They even crush the competition. At the Paris 2024 Games, no less than 272 former, current or future students (registered for the next school year) won a total of 330 medals, including 127 gold (95 silver and 108 bronze). They represent 26 countries and were engaged in 21 sports. Among this contingent of Olympic medalists, women accounted for more than half (58%). Unsurprisingly, the United States had the best share, with 184 medalists for 236 medals. The sports where NCAA students performed the best were swimming (79 medals), track and field (76), basketball (28), volleyball (27), and water polo (23). ). Finally, Stanford leads the universities having provided the most medalists (34 medals by 22 athletes, including Katie Ledecky), ahead of California (17 by 13), Texas (16 by 13), Virginia (15 by 8), and USC (13 by 12).
