Futsal has made a big media breakthrough. FIFA has announced that the 2024 World Cup, which kicked off on Saturday 14 September in Uzbekistan, is the most widely broadcast in history. The 52 matches of this tenth edition, the first in Central Asia, are being broadcast live in 175 territories. The tournament is also available for free on FIFA+, the organisation's digital platform. Twenty-four teams are taking part in the final phase, which will be held in Tashkent, the capital, as well as in the cities of Andijan, located in the Fergana Valley, and Bukhara, an important stop on the ancient Silk Road. Uzbekistan is the fourth member country of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to host the Futsal World Cup, after Hong Kong in 1992, Taipei in 2004 and Thailand in 2012.
