A formality. Submitted to the vote of the 141st session of the IOC, the principle of a double vote for the attribution of the 2030 and 2034 Winter Games was formally validated on Sunday October 15 in Mumbai. The members of the body approved it by a show of hands, sanctioned by an overwhelming majority and only a handful of abstentions. The Austrian Karl Stoss, the new president of the commission for the future host of the Winter Games, suggested it before the vote: a double attribution next year at the Paris session in July, or even later and elsewhere in the event of a French candidacy still in the running, will make it possible to offer “ from security to the Olympic movement in uncertain economic times. » It will also ensure host countries “ climatically reliable” until 2034. Karl Stoss reminded us: the French, Swiss and Swedish candidacies for the Games in 2030 must finalize their files by the end of October. The Austrian leader also clarified that Salt Lake City has, to date, no declared competitor for the 2034 edition.
