CAS adjourns hearing in Valieva case

Skating

Patience. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced Thursday September 28 in a brief press release: the Kamila Valieva case will not be concluded this week. The auditions began on Tuesday September 26, as planned. But they could not be concluded in three days. The CAS announced that they were completed for this first phase, but will resume on November 9 and 10, 2023. “ After the presentation of evidence by the parties, the panel requested the production of further documents and, to allow the parties to consider and respond to this request, decided to hold two additional days of hearing to consider the appeal », indicates the jurisdiction based in Lausanne. With this new postponement, it now seems unlikely that the CAS decision will be rendered before the end of the year. And, with it, the presentation by the IOC of the medals for the team figure skating event of the Beijing 2022 Winter Games. The appeal before the CAS was filed by three parties: the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA ), the International Skating Union (ISU), and the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA). WADA is calling for a four-year suspension, the ISU is asking for a two-year sanction. As for RUSADA, whose independent disciplinary commission cleared Kamila Valieva, it suggested that a simple reprimand would be sufficient.
