FIS cancels the Zermatt-Cervinia race

Ski

The end of a great idea. The Zermatt-Cervinia Alpine Ski World Cup stage, the first race in history in two border countries with a start in Switzerland and an arrival in Italy, will not appear on the calendar for the 2024-2025 season. The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) announced this in a press release, explaining that it had taken this decision in agreement with the Swiss (Swiss-Ski) and Italian (FISI) authorities. Presented at its launch as a historic initiative, the Zermatt-Cervinia race was to be contested for the first time during the 2022-2023 World Cup season, but it had to be canceled due to weather conditions. Same scenario in the following season. With two successive cancellations, and the hostility of environmental defense groups, the FIS has therefore decided to undoubtedly draw a definitive line on its cross-border project.
