Ambitious. The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) announced on the eve of its annual congress, scheduled for Thursday, May 25 in Zurich, the upcoming creation of a brand new competition of unprecedented size. The FIS Games (in English, FIS Games) will bring together, from 2028, the 16 disciplines overseen by the international body. The event will last 16 days. It will be organized every four years, in even years between two editions of the Olympic Games. On the program, alpine, freestyle and Nordic skiing, snowboarding, but also non-Olympic disciplines such as telemark, freeride or speed skiing. It is also planned to include competitions in handiskiing, held last year under the aegis of the FIS. “ The FIS Games will become the largest snow sports organization, a groundbreaking celebration that will bring the FIS family together like never before, explains a press release from the body. For sixteen days, they will bring together the greatest talents from Olympic and non-Olympic disciplines and naturally disability sports competitions. From alpine to freestyle, from freeski and snowboard to Nordic, Telemark, speed skiing and freeride, the best athletes in the world will be able to present themselves in front of a global audience.. A call for applications was launched by the FIS for the first edition, supposed to be held in 2028. After sending letters of intent, from 1er August, the deadline for submitting an application is 1er November 2023. The FIS Council is expected to announce in spring 2024 the first host of its new multi-sport competition.
