End of course for Arthur Menezes Soares. The Brazilian businessman, known by the nickname "King Arthur" and suspected of buying votes for Rio de Janeiro in the race for the 2016 Games, was arrested in Miami, Florida. He had been on the run for two years. Arthur Menezes Soares is accused by the courts of his country of having paid two million dollars to Papa Massata Diack, the son of Lamine Diack, former president of the IAAF, via the company Matlock Capital Group, based in the British Virgin Islands. The transfer was made on September 29, 2009, only three days before the IOC vote for the attribution of the 2016 Games. Arthur Menezes Soares would have admitted his participation in this attempt to buy votes. According to The Globe, he would have made an agreement with the American Department of Justice to avoid his extradition to Brazil, in exchange for his cooperation.
