The fair play award for Canadian Ellie Black

Paris 2024

Great reward for Canadian gymnast Ellie Black (photo above). Present in Paris for her fourth Olympic Games, she was named winner of the Paris 2024 Fair Play Prize, awarded by the International Fair Play Committee and the IOC. Aged 28, three times medalist at the world championships, Ellie Black took 6th place in the all-around. But the jury distinguished her for having comforted the Frenchwoman Mélanie de Jesus dos Santos at length after the elimination of France in the women's team event. The Canadian gymnast was among the five finalists for the 2024 prize, along with the president of World Rowing, Frenchman Jean-Christophe Rolland, Hungarian fencer Csanad Gemsi, cyclists Fariba Hashimi (Afghanistan) and Hanna Tserakh (AIN/Belarus ), and the German head of mission Olaf Tabor. The Fair Play Prize celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. It was created during the Tokyo Olympic Games in 1964. The selection process began by inviting athletes and fans to submit applications, then a jury from the IOC and the Fair Play Commission nominated the five finalists. The final decision was made by a public vote, which garnered tens of thousands of responses.
