The skies finally seem to be clearing in Italy over the Eugenio Monti track in Cortina d'Ampezzo, chosen by the organisers of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Games for the luge, bobsleigh and skeleton competitions. A meeting was held very recently on site, attended by the presidents of the international federations of bobsleigh and skeleton – the Italian Ivo Ferriani – and luge – the Latvian Einars Fogelis –, representatives of the IOC and Milan-Cortina 2026. Fabio Saldini, CEO of the Italian company in charge of the renovation of the historic site, detailed the progress of the work, presented the next steps and explained that they had planned a " snow plan » to ensure that the work can continue in the event of cold and snowy weather. The 1.650-metre track will partially follow the original layout, used for the Cortina Winter Games in 1956, with 16 curves along the entire track. Comment by Ivo Ferriani: " After our inspection on site, I am very pleased to confirm that the quality of the product and the schedule of execution of the works make us very optimistic about the final result. We are sure that the track will be ready on time and above all with the quality necessary for the safety of the athletes. ". The homologation of the track is planned for March 2025, before the organization of at least one test event. As a reminder, the IOC has always firmly opposed the option of renovating the Eugenio Monti track in Cortina d'Ampezzo, putting pressure on the Italians to choose equipment that already exists abroad. But the political authorities have finally decided, after a long saga that is not always easy to follow, for a solution at home.
