There will only be five at the Paris 2024 Games, but the neutral individual athletes (AIN) showed up in force at the junior and under-23 canoe-kayak sprint world championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. And they managed a medal raid. The discipline body (ICF) reports that the AIN won five of the 14 gold medals up for grabs on Friday July 19, the second day of the finals. Their gold rush began in the junior women's K2 500, with victory for Maryia Misivchenka and Darya Kliuchynskaya. The first of the two also won the K1 200. It continued in the mixed events, with a double in C2 500m, the Russian teams winning among the juniors and the under-23s. For the Paris 2024 Games, the IOC has selected three Russians and two Belarusians under neutral status for the canoe-kayak events. All five athletes accepted the invitation.
