The consultation is a success

UCI

The International Cycling Union (UCI) can rub its hands: the vast consultation open to the general public from July 10 to 16 on the attractiveness of road cycling was a success. More than 22.300 people responded online, expressing their opinion on the current situation of the discipline and their expectations regarding its future development. According to a UCI press release, residents of 134 countries on five continents participated in the survey. The five most represented countries are, in order, the United States, France, Spain, Belgium and Italy. Britain, Germany, Colombia, Australia, Russia and Brazil are also among the 15 countries with the highest number of responses. Conducted in eight languages (French, English, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, Portuguese, German and Italian), the consultation addressed the points which would – or not – make road cycling even more exciting, in particular the use of headsets by the teams and their riders, the use of power meters in competition, the size and budget of the teams, the format of the events, the method of broadcasting the events or the information given during the races. The following ? A series of interviews with people from different cycling families, as well as discussions within an ad hoc working group made up of representatives of road cycling teams, riders and organizers, media and broadcasters . A series of proposals will be developed on this basis for approval by the Professional Cycling Council and the UCI Steering Committee in 2020.
