The COJOJ will push its walls

Dakar 2026

Things are moving quickly in Senegal. Less than two years before the start of the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar (October 28 to November 13), the IOC turned out in force last week for the sixth meeting of its Coordination Commission (photo above). The opportunity to assess " the significant progress already made and to reaffirm the commitment of Senegal and the IOC to the organisation of a historic event on African soil", according to the official version. What should we remember? A few figures and a handful of dates. The modernization of sports facilities, including the Tour de l'Œuf and the Iba Mar Diop stadium, should be completed by the end of 2025. The Olympic village installed in Diamniadio, for its part, should be delivered in October 2025. The sites in Diamniadio, including the Me Abdoulaye Wade stadium and the Dakar Arena multi-sports hall, are already ready. For the rest, the official YOG website, Dakar2026.com, has been launched, as have the dedicated social media channels. The marketing and communication plan is finalized. What's next? The YOGOC will significantly increase its staff. Currently made up of 80 people, it will increase to 330 employees by the end of 2025. Next year, the volunteer program will be launched and the emblematic elements of the Games – poster, official song, mascot and medals – will be unveiled. Finally, the ticket office will also open in 2025.
