While the scourge of doping is rife today in many sports, especially in Australia, John Coates, President of the Australian National Olympic Committee, announced a proposal for new anti-doping measures. This would involve establishing potential prison sentences in the country's anti-doping legislation.
The current bill would include a fine of 5100 Australian dollars for athletes who refuse to cooperate in anti-doping investigations.
Additionally, Australian athletes and sports officials will be required to sign a legal document regarding their doping history in order to be eligible to participate in the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.
“These measures are necessary to ensure integrity and honesty in the administration of sport in this country,” said John Coates.
